Budleigh Salterton is a small town located along the East Devon coast. About 15 miles southeast of Exeter, in England. Situated within the East Devon area of natural beauty. Budleigh lies at the mouth of Otter River, at a point where the estuary forms a reed bed and grazing marsh area: A site where migratory birds settle and a site of special interest. The pebble beach and cliffs form part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage site. This is however an arrangement of geographical convenience rather than its true geologic time. The Jurassic Coast stretches over a 153 kilometer distance from Orcombe Point near Exmouth in the west to Old Harry Rocks on the Isle of Purbeck in the east. Along the coastline presents a continous sequence of rock formations that span approximately 185 million years of the history of the earth.
Budleigh Salterton is a lively town with cafes, tea rooms, restaurants, gift stores, world class hotels, bed and breakfast as well as a cookery school. Most of these are found mostl in the High street, Fore street and Station Road area. There is a park near the centre of the town known simply as the green. There is the Fairlynch museum, which is housed within a listed, thatched marine coverage dating from 1811.
The town was served by a railway line built and run by the London and South Western Railway, between 1897 and 1967. Today, it is served by three bus routes connecting to the towns such as Exmouth and Sidmouth, Exeter and Bicton College. Some notable residents include Everett Millais a well known painter famous for his painting The Boyhood of Raleigh, Henry Hawley Smart who died at laburnum Cottage in January 1893, other notable people include broadcasters sue Lawley and Andrew Marr, poet M.R. Peacocke, actress Belinda lee and many others.

The Fairlynch Arts Centre and Museum
Located at 27 Fore Street, Budleigh Salterton, Devon is one of the prettiest museums in South West England which offers archaeology and geology of the lower otter valley as well as exhibitions of specimens of the world famous pebble stones of Budleigh Salterton. A cycle track with picnic spots on its way extends about 2 miles from Budleigh to Littleham and Phear Park, Exmouth, along the old railway course. 4 driving schools can be found few miles of Budleigh, the nearest being on the edges of the town at Dalditch which offers tuition and facilities all through the year.
EVENTS
Gypsy Music Promotions offers great and exciting live music programmes for 2014 at Budleighs public hall. Coming up soon in September is the ALTAN which features music by special guests Chris Newman, the renown guitarist/flatpicker as well as Máire Ní Chathasaigh on the Irish harp. As from 6.30pm, the doors and bars are open for all, music lasts till late and food can be pre ordered from the in house star chef Amar Tim Golder.
