Gretna Green is home to the famous Old Blacksmith's Shop where runaway weddings have traditionally taken place since 1754 when the Marriage Act prevented under-21s from marrying without parental consent. Nearby Bonshaw Tower was built by the Irving family in the late 16th century as a border fortification and has remained relatively unchanged since that time. Still home to the Irving family the four-storey tower is another popular wedding venue offering fantastic views as far as Cumbria. Set amongst 20 acres of private wooded grounds with fabulous gardens and its own waterfall set above the River Kirtle, previous visitors to the Tower include Robert the Bruce and King James VI of Scotland.

The largest wedding venue in the area is at the nearby town of Gretna in the Anvil Hall, a former church which now offers religious or civil ceremonies which can accommodate up to 200 wedding guests. Set away from the main tourist trail, this venue offers couples the opportunity of a more private wedding with the bonus that it has an aisle for the bride to walk down, which is lit by candles for a beautiful romantic ceremony.
