Brantingham is a village in the East Riding of Yorkshire in England. The noble family of Brantingham was from this village, including Ralph de Brantingham who was King’s Chamberlain to King Edward III and Thomas de Brantingham, the Lord Treasurer and Bishop of Exeter. Lewis de Beaumont helped defend north-east England from Scottish incursions and he died in the village in 1333.
The church in the village is dedicated to All Saints and is currently listed on the National Heritage List for England. The village hall was built in 1933 and gifted to the village by Arnold Reckitt. The village hall has two Queen Anne gables located at the front of the building. The floor in the large hall has been restored using maple. The Brantingham Roman villa is located in an area that is known as Brantingham Outgang. The villa burned down in the middle of the 4th century and the area was gated off. In September of 1941, mosaic flooring and hypocaust heated rooms were found in a working quarry. In 1948, archaeologists started to prepare the mosaic pavements for removal, but before they could, some of the mosaics were stolen. The remaining mosaics are currently on display in the museum.
The Tour de Yorkshire is a new event that started in 2015. This is a three day cycling race that takes place across Yorkshire. The route for day one is from Beverley to Settle, day two goes from Otley to Doncaster and day three will take place from Middlesbrough to Scarborough. Each of the towns along the route will have stilt walkers, street bands, stunt riders and other entertainment for all three days.
