HISTORY

Although the use of the name Joppa can be traced as far back as the 18th century, nothing much is known about its origin. It has been speculated to refer to the Biblical town of Joppa (now known as Yafo or Jaffa), which was coastal.

Portobello Beach – located just a few miles from the city centre of Edinburgh. This charming seaside suburb features golden sand that stretches for two miles and is great for swimming and sunbathing.

Popular events like the annual Big Beach Busk are held here. International volleyball competitions and triathlon events are also staged in Portobello Beach.

Lots of bars and cafes line the promenade if you're seeking refreshment. Further up the street are independent restaurants and gift shops. There are some elegant Georgian and Victorian architecture to look at in Portobello, as well as some attractive parks.
