Steeple Bumpstead is a village and civil parish in the Braintree district of Essex.  St. Mary’s Church is located in Steeple Bumpstead, however the church no longer has the steeple that named the towns.  An avenue of trees leads to where Bower Hall and a dovecot were located.  The dovecot had been built around 1700 and there were 220 nesting holes for doves. 

Moyns Park is a country house that is Grade I listed.  The home is located on 200 acres and has bay windows and pinnacled gables.  It was the home of the Gent family until the late 19th century.  The house was also used by a writer who was finishing up a novel and as a location for a few movies.  At one point, in the middle of the 20th century, the house was used as a riding school too. 

There are a couple of monuments in Steeple Bumpstead including an 18th century monument to Sir John Bendish and his wife and another to Sir Henry Bendish.  Sir John Bendish and his wife stand next to a cherub holding a flaming torch upside down.  Sir Henry Bendish is reclining in lace cuffs, cravat and buckled shoes with his wig falling to his shoulders.  His son Henry is shown playing near his pillow. 

Every year, St. Mary’s Church hosts the Harvest Festival in Steeple Bumpstead in October.  This past year they also celebrated Winnie the Pooh’s birthday at the same time.  It is a day filled with music and family fun.
