Muirend boasts some fascinating architecture. This includes the facade of the Toledo Cinema, a flamboyant listed building from the early 1930s and The Bank, which became Muirhead's first pub when it opened in 2006. The Bank occupies a former Glasgow Savings Bank building that retains several original features. Other striking buildings include the Couper Institute Halls and Merrylee Telephone Exchange.

Muirend is well served by public transport. Rail services run between the centre of Glasgow and Neilston and local buses connect Muirend with central Glasgow and elsewhere.

Muirhead is a great place for sports fans. The surrounding area is home to one of Scotland's leading rugby clubs, Hutcheson's Aloysians RFC, which caters for players of all ages and abilities. Muirhead AFC is the local amateur football team. There are plenty of sports facilities within a few miles, among them Glasgow Ski and Snowboard Centre and Glasgow Climbing Centre .

There is no need to be bored in Muirhead. The area is conveniently located on Glasgow's south side and many of that city's major attractions are within two or three miles. These include the People's Palace, where you can explore the city's social history and Glasgow Science Centre. If you want to shop until you drop, Glasgow's shops are easily accessible by bus or rail from Muirhead.
 
Despite being on the edge of a city, Muirhead is a haven for outdoors types, close to some wonderful parks and woodlands. Pollock Country Park was voted Britain's Best Park in 2007 and Europe's Best Park in 2008 and has many facilities including a mountain bike circuit. Rouken Glen Park has walking trails through woodland and a great adventure play area.
