North of the River Clyde, Possilpark is situated in the largest city in Scotland - Glasgow. The area was originally built around well known ornamental ironworks company Mcfarlanes. The company - named W Mcfarlane & Co. LTD was better known as The Saracen Foundry.

This company was the foundry for the area known as Possilpark and was responsible for many developments in the area including bandstands and local monuments. The company has been closed for over 15 years now.

Since the 1990’s the area has seen many new developments including many new housing estates being built as well as a Lidl store, a sports centre (millenium centre) and many new smaller businesses on the main shopping strip - Saracen street.

The area has excellent transport links into Glasgow itself as well as nearby access to the main shopping strip located in Possil park.  The most recent development in the area is the Millenium centre. This is a sports centre with all mod cons including a dance studio, a sports hall and various classes including Yoga and Tai Chi.

You should also consider paying a visit to local attractions such as Glasgow Green, a beautiful outdoor park full of sensational scenery and stunning gardens. Here you can find out all about Glasgow’s history in the Peoples palace, or maybe take a stroll through the winter gardens which are full of exotic plants and shrubbery.

Glasgow Necropolis is a place of true wonder and amazement, this attraction is a victorian cemetery full of weird and wonderful architecture, history and sculptural curiosities. The site was modelled on Père-Lachaise in Paris and is thought to contain over 3000 tombs.

The biggest event for this area in 2014 will be the Glasgow commonwealth Games. Showcasing 17 different sports this event is definitely not one to miss. The games take place over 11 days and begin on the 23rd of July this year.
