Flower Delivery to Bermondsey by Clare Florist

Bermondsey is a district in south London and is part of the London Borough of Southwark, which lies to its west. Rotherhithe lies to its east while Walworth and Peckham lie to the south. The River Thames lies to its north.

The district was once an important part of the river trade in London, but then it became derelict for quite some time. However, when the wharves in the area were renovated in the 1980s, the face of the town changed.

Now, you can find some really good restaurants and coffee houses in Bermondsey. Although they may be slightly hard to find, you can call it a part of your journey to find these amazing establishments. So, whether you're coming here for a romantic meal or to celebrate a special event, know that there are options for you here. Of course, don't forget to buy some flowers in Bermondsey to present during the meal to make who you're with feel really special.

Apart from restaurants and coffee houses, bars and pubs are aplenty in Bermondsey too, and they are usually packed with regulars and visitors.

HISTORY

Bermondsey was occupied as far back as the Anglo-Saxon period. Then, it was held by King William, but smaller portions of the land were under Robert, Count of Mortain, who was the king's half brother. The Knights Templar also owned land in this area.

After the Great Fire of London, Bermondsey was settled by affluent families  during the 17th century and it transformed into a garden suburb the likes of Grange Road. St Mary Magdalen in Bermondsey Street is one of the structures to have survived from this era.

The 18th century saw the town become a spa leisure resort thanks to the discovery of a spring from the river Neckinger.

Parts of Bermondsey in the 19th century became a slum, especially along the riverside, due to the arrival of industrial plants, docks and immigrant housing.

The area suffered damage during World War II, as well as after the collapse of the river trade. However, fortunes changed when wharves in the area were renovated.

Now, it's a lively part of south London with bars, pubs, restaurants, coffee shops and other attractions.
