Roehampton, once known as the last village in London, lies to the west of Putney and next to the beautiful Richmond Park. It is known for its Georgian architecture and the impressive and innovative Grade II listed Alton Estate, built in the late 1950s and inspired by the designs of French architect Le Corbusier. Alton Estate is one of the largest public housing estates in Britain today and is often used as the setting for films such as Fahrenheit 541 and television programmes like The Bill and Prime Suspect.

Roehampton is also home to The Priory, London's oldest psychiatric hospital. Best known for treating the rich and famous with drug and alcohol addictions, The Priory Hospital has an international reputation. It is not just for the rich and famous, however. Half of its 107 in-patients are referred by the NHS, come from all walks of life and pay nothing.

The University of Roehampton is London's only campus university and is set in 54 acres of glorious parkland. It is one of Britain's top post 1992 universities with an excellent reputation for research and post graduate employment.

Roehampton, in the south west of London, is easily reached by tube, train or bus. The nearest tube stations are Hammersmith on the District/Piccadilly/Hammersmith and City Lines and East Putney on the District line. The closest over ground train station is Barnes station with trains to central London running every ten to fifteen minutes.

Everyone who visits or lives in Roehampton will want to see the beautiful Richmond Park, home to over 300 red deer and 350 fallow deer and one of the UK's best sites for ancient trees. The Isabella Plantation is particularly beautiful with a wide range of stunning flowers and plants such as rhododendrons, irises and azaleas.
