Borehamwood is in the southern part of the county of Hertfordshire and is situated less than 15 miles from London with a population of just over 30,000. The town is probably most famous as the home of Elstree Studios, which are used for the making of television programmes and films. Until 1909, Borehamwood was part of the Parish of Elstree and despite the fact that this is no longer the case, the two still share the running of the local council.

The town has been home to Elstree Studios since the 1920s and has seen the making of many Hollywood style films as well as popular British television programmes. Trains stop at Elstree and Borehamwood railway station to take passengers into London, while there are numerous local bus services which travel both into London and throughout the immediate vicinity. For those travelling by road, the A1 and M25 are close by, providing good road links. The transport links to the capital are driving house building in Borehamwood and have made it a popular residential suburb of London.
