The Scottish village of Muir of Ord is located 20km west of Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, in an area known as the Black Isle.

One of its most famous businesses is the Glen Ord Distillery which produces award winning whisky and is now the Black Isle's only single malt distillery and a very popular visitor attraction.

There are a number of ruined and still intact castles nearby and plenty of stunning scenery. For anyone who loves the great outdoors, there are plenty of walking, hiking and cycling routes which allow you to explore by foot or pedal power.

Despite the smallness of the village it has a railway station and is connected to two of Scotland's most beautiful, dramatic and remote routes - the Kyle of Lochalsh Line and the Far North Line, which travels all the way up to Wick.

There is also a local football team here, the Muir of Ord Rovers FC as well as an 18 hole par 67 golf course, one of the oldest in the north of Scotland.

Muir of Ord is a popular holiday spot with plenty of hotels, bed and breakfasts and self-catering accommodation. Shops, cafes, a village hall and a library contribute to the community spirit.

The Ord Arms is a welcoming local pub where many a walker, fisherman or bird watcher can join the locals for a relaxing meal and drink.

Drive less than an hour south and you will come to the Cairngorm National Park, a summer and winter playground for outdoor enthusiasts with a wide range of activities and things to do. The less sporty can take the Cairngorm Funicular Railway to the top of the mountain.
