Wormshill is a village in the county of Kent. It is located in the southeast region of England within the Borough of Maidstone.
Wormshill has a long village history that dates back to well before its documentation in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it is listed as “Godeselle.” It is believed that the village was originally inhabited by Anglo-Saxons and named for the Anglo-Saxon god Woden.  The village’s name is also seen in historical documents as Wornesell, Wormysell, Wormeshell, and Wormsell. The village name likely relates to this early Anglo-Saxon period, but some scholars believe it could mean “shelter for a herd of pigs.”

Archaeological digs in Wormshill uncovered ancient flint tools and agricultural chalk mines which are believed to be pre-Roman. The village has many historic structures including one of the oldest surviving post office buildings in the United Kingdom. Its church was built during Norman times and is dedicated to St. Giles.
