Inglewhite is home to one of the oldest marketplaces and fairs in the country. A market cross, called the Inglewhite cross, dates back to 1500, and the green where the ghost lights were most common was often used as a fair for sheep and cattle. During these fairs, the people of Inglewhite would often take part in a sport called bull baiting, which would include inciting a bull to anger, and then setting dogs on it. This practice, and the fairs themselves, were opposed by the vicars of the town, who eventually shut them down.

Many of the streets in Inglewhite still boast their original names, derived from the industries they used to host. For example, Silk Mill Lane was once home to a water-powered silk bill. Button Street played home to button makers. The smithy in Inglewhite was one of the most prolific makers of ammunition boxes for the World War One war effort, but has since closed. A café took its place for a few years, but that, too closed.

Inglewhite used to be home to a few public houses, including the Queens Arms and the Black Bull. Both of these have since closed, leaving just The Green Man Pub. Though this pub has been through many iterations and has been owned by many different people, closing and opening several times in the last decade, it is now open again.
