When one thinks of Scawby, Lincolnshire, the words rural, traditional and unique inevitably come to mind. A beautiful village and civil parish set in the North Lincolnshire countryside, Scawby is well-known for its lovely, 18th Century cottages, long stone walls and its old, but picturesque village church- St. Hybald’s.

The Church of St Hybald (which is, in fact, a Saxon church) dates back to the 7th Century and was built in Early English style. In 1843, it underwent extensive renovations by William Adams Nicholson and then again, in 1870 by James Fowler of Louth.

In terms of recent modern history, you will probably recognize Scawby as being home to local Quiz team "Dobbin" who defeated The “Eggheads” back in 2011.

The very centre of Scawby’s village sees a quaint collection of some mature trees, a few almshouses, and an old village pump. The village itself is lovely with many, well-tended flowering beds replete with primroses, tulips and daffodils which make for a magnificent display in the springtime for visitors and residents alike. In the summer, these blooms are followed by begonias, marigolds and geraniums.

The Scawby Village Hall was opened in 1972 and has since been the site of many regular, weekly events and happenings in the village. Villagers can attend events such as gala weekends, “Safari Suppers”, village dances and a variety of concerts. With its population of around 2000, you will most certainly find some form of fun entertainment when visiting this village.
