When a mill was built, more people began to move to the area, but over the years, it dwindled in use and was eventually turned into a craft centre, though it is not this anymore.

One of the most famous locations in Acharn is the Falls of Acharn. More than 24.5 metres high, plummeting from the top of a wooded gorge into a pool below, the area is popular for walking, though it is recommended that you keep your dog on a leash.
