Flower Delivery to Welshpool with Clare Florist

Welshpool is called a place “where Wales Begins.” It's also an area where there are just lots of things to do and countless sights to see. You name it, they probably have it – walking trails, wildlife, fishing, golf, leisure facilities, country sports, historic sites, beautiful scenery, shopping and so much more.

All that said, you know that you can count on Welshpool if you're planning a romantic date. Of course, it wouldn't have a romantic flair in it if you didn't send flowers to Welshpool to set the tone for your entire weekend date.

History

Welshpool is a mid-Wales town and just lies four miles from the border with England. Y Trallwng is the town's Welsh name and it means “the marshy or sinking land.” Welshpool was originally known as Pool, but it was changed to Welshpool to tell it apart from Poole in Dorset.

Much of the architecture that's in Welshpool is Georgian, but the origins of the town are much older than that. It was once the capital of Powys Wenwynwyn after its prince fled Mathrafal – the traditional Welsh royal site – in 1212.

The forces of Owain Glyndwr devastated the town in 1400, which was the start of the rebellion against Henry IV, the English king.

There is a cockpit – a six-sided brick one – that was built during the 18th century. It was continually used for cockfighting until the Cruelty to Animals Act 1835. It's the only cockpit that's unaltered and preserved in its original state in Britain.
