Great Ness is a beautiful, small hamlet with an enormous amount to see and appreciate mixed with an abundance of history.  Many of the structures, including the Church of Saint Andrew are protected, and in 2011 Great Ness became a conservation area.  Great Ness is located to the north of the River Severn, so it receives a great deal of fertile deposits.  Because of this, Great Ness was settled and enjoyed agricultural success.  Some of the valley’s crops suggest that the agricultural activity date back to the Bronze Age.  

One of the many beautiful things to see in Great Ness is Nesscliffe Country Park.  The park itself is divided into three areas: Nesscliffe Hill, Hopton Hill and the Cliffe.  Shruggs Common, which is thought to be the smallest common in all of Shropshire is found on Nesscliffe Hill.  

Another must-see is Nesscliffe Rock Cave.  It is part of Nesscliffe Country Park, and is a small sandstone cave.  It is better known as Kynaston’s Cave, since it is the place where he and his noble steed Beelzebub claimed refuge.  The entrance of the cave once had stairs carved into the rock, but time has since eroded them away.  While in the past there used to be a wooden staircase that gave access to the cave, it no longer exists as of 2015.  Presently, the mouth of the cave is shut off by grids.
