Located in the Suffolk Coastal District, Woodbridge is a beautiful small town with a strong nautical history.

Although close to the coast, Woodbridge is not a seaside town. It is actually situated on the River Deben which flows into the North Sea a few miles away. There are a good number of seaside resorts in the area with Felixstowe for instance is only around 10 miles away.

Woodbridge has a recorded history that dates back around 1400 years but there is evidence of habitation in the area dating back to Neolithic times.

Woodbridge is close to one of the most important Anglo Saxon sites in the UK, Sutton Hoo. Sutton Hoo is believed to be the burial place of 7th century leader, King Raedwald. Many of the relics recovered from the site are held in the British Museum.

The town has been famous for boat building and other nautical endeavours since the middle ages. It is believed that the town supplied ships to both Edward III and Sir Francis Drake.

There are many places of interest in and round the town, including Woodbridge Tide Mill. This is one of the only examples of a functioning Tide Mill in the UK. There has been a mill on the site since at least 1170 when it was owned and operated by the local Augustinian Priory. Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries by Henry VIII in 1536, the Mill fell into the ownership of the Crown. The Mill is now a Grade I listed building and is open to the public.
