Set in 225 acres of gorgeous Surrey woodland, Whiteley Village has more than 200 almshouses, a care home and extra care apartments for close to 500 older people who have limited means. The Whiteley Homes Trust manages the village and raise funds each year in order to provide services and maintain the almshouses, which are all Grade II. Much of the homes in Whiteley Village were designed by Reginald Blomfield, an architect who was much influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement.

History

The village was formed as the result of a bequest realised in 1907 with the death of William Whiteley. Managed by the Whiteley Homes Trust, a charity registered in the UK, the village offers almshouses for older people who have limited financial means. Apart from that, the village also has an extra-care facility and a 100-bed nursing and residential care home.

Whiteley Village sits on land on the gravel-rich lower slopes of the River Mole in Surrey. The village was up until the 19th century, part of Walton Firs and Walton Heath in Walton on Thames. Created in 1851, the village was formed from the southern part of Walton on Thames.

Architecture
