Flower Delivery to Usk, Wales with Clare Florist

More popularly known for its award-winning participation in the Britain Bloom competitions, Usk , a small town in Monmouthshire, undoubtedly has the most magnificent flowers in Usk. Not to mention the best in horticultural activities. It won the Large Village Award in 2005, after all.

Because the competition is based on 3 core pillars – Community Participation, Environmental Responsibility, and Horticultural Excellence, there's no question that Usk flowers are just one of the many things that make this small town quite big and reputable.

Notable Attractions in Usk

Usk Castle

The castle was built during the Norman times when the Normans realised the town's geographical and military importance. The de Clare family, one of the powerful families at that time, founded it in 1120 as a means to control the resources and people in the area. It stands above the town as an imposing structure overlooking the ancient crossing point.

Twyn Square

This is a large town square with a clock tower built to commemorate the 1887 Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria, and an art gallery right across it that is called the Gallery in the Square. This is also where the town's Memorial Hall is found where the Usk Farmers’ Market is held twice in a month.

Usk Island

Not an island per se but a park at the river’s edge, the Usk Island is named as such as the word island is a literal translation of the Welsh word 'ynys', which means a river meadow. It is surrounded by woodland and mostly laid to grass. You may not find plenty of Usk flowers in the park, but you will find a huge adventure playground.

Priory Church of St Mary

This parish church originated as part of the Benedictine priory founded in 12th century by Richard de Clare. A century after that, the convent and the northern aisle of the church were added for the town’s resident to use. The nave was incorporated in 1536 and other structures were derived from the 14th century.

Usk Rural Life Museum

Located on New Market Street and housed in a former malt barn, the Usk Rural Life Museum houses artefacts that showcase life in the area from the mid-19th to the mid-20th centuries. It is run by volunteers and open to visitors from April to October.

Session Hall

Not exactly an attraction by tourism standards, but it is definitely worth mentioning. After all, it has gone through 12 years of restoration and costs a lot of money to complete. It features two separate courtrooms both docks of which were originally linked by a tunnel that led to the Usk Prison built just next door.

The small market town is also known for its pubs, antique shops, restaurants, Her Majesty's Prison Usk, and the Usk Natural Burial Meadow.

Beyond Usk, particularly in the Wye Valley, attractions include The Black Mountains, Tintern Abbey, the River Usk, Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, Roman Fort in Caerleon, Dewstow Gardens, and Chepstow Castle.
