The West Yorkshire town of Castleford has a rich history, stretching back thousands of years. It is built on the site of a Roman army settlement where Oliver Cromwell had an encampment during the English Civil War. In the 19th century, Castleford was a major centre for the coalmining, pottery and glass industries.

Nowadays Castleford is home to the famous fashion brand Burberry and featured as the town of "Denton", in David Jason's long running TV drama series 'A Touch of Frost'. The town has also been featured on Channel 4 as it underwent major regeneration and refurbishment with the help of Grand Design's Kevin McCloud.
