Orcheston is a village as well as a civil parish in Wiltshire.  It used to be two separate civil parishes until they combined into one civil parish in 1934.  In 1971, they changed once again and this time it was into an ecclesiastical parish.  The churches from the two separate parishes, St. George and St. Mary’s, are still there.  St. George’s Church is from the 13th century and is currently in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.  St. Mary’s is also from the 13th century and both churches are listed as a Grade II building.  

The Avebury Stone Circle is one of the most infamous sights from prehistoric Britain.  These ancient ruins are in Wiltshire and they were built and then altered many times between 2850 B.C. and 2200 B.C.  In the center of the stone hedges is the area that was once Avebury village.  This is one of the ceremonial sites that can be reached on foot and people may be interested in seeing some of the others which include the Sanctuary, Windmill Hill, and Silbury Hill.  

Another interesting landmark in Wiltshire is the White Horse, which is visible from great distances.  The horse is located on Bratton Camp and records state that it was originally cut during the late 1600s to commemorate the Battle of Ethandun that supposedly took place in the area back in 878 A.D.  

St. Michael’s Church in Wiltshire is holding their very first flower festival in quite some time and they are doing so to promote the community of the town of Mere.  The festival is called the Flower and Music Festival and will have multiple events over a three-day period.  People are welcome to wander amongst all the floral arrangements, watch the musical performances, and even sing along.
