The village of Winster is located in Derbyshire, England. It is situated about 6 miles from the town of Bakewell and 5 miles from the town of Matlock. Winster used to be a popular location for the lead mining industry but the mines were eventually closed down. Now the village is more of a historical location which attracts tourists throughout the year. It also helps that Winster is located within the Peak District National Park and has many old buildings and structures including the Market House. According to a 2011 census, there were about 600 people living in the village. New unofficial reports claim there are about 630 people living in the village now.

A very early record of Winster can be found in the Domesday Book of 1086. This book shows the village was owned by a man named Henry de Ferrers. He was a Norman soldier who fought in the Battle of Hastings in the year 1066. Many centuries later, one of the last great duels to take place in England took place in Winster. A young surgeon named William Cuddie was in love with a woman who came from a wealthy family. The brother of the woman did not approve of her relationship with William so he returned the next day with his other brothers and killed William in a duel. Two of these brothers were found not guilty of murdering William while the third brother ran away and moved to Australia before he could be tried. He never went back to England.

Today the village looks like your average small community. It has a shop, primary school, two pubs, two churches and a post office. One of the churches is the Church of St John the Baptist, which is a parish church. Each year on the first Sunday following June 24th, they hold a carnival in the village called Winster Wakes and a parade called the Wakes Parade. The celebrations typically last all week long.
